Some things to eat, assuming you don't have dietary restrictions: ice cream, popsicles, other cool, soft foods.

Do not eat very acidic foods such as fruit. Avoid alcohol, as well. Things with both very low and very high pH are likely to worsen the inflammation.

It will probably be all right to have a bowl of cereal as long as it's not crunchy, and a bowl of soup as long as it's not too spicy or hot. (Recommended highly: chicken soup or vegetable minestrone soup, without added spices.) Avoid spicy foods altogether. Avoid hard or crunchy foods.

If you are quite sick, see your doctor. You may require treatment. Either way, if you have a hoarse voice (laryngitis) with this, avoid speaking until it is better. Jot necessary remarks to people on a notepad. Cough drops sometimes help (but don't choke on them!), and using a vaporizer or humidifier if you have one will help but be certain they're clean! I've learned from hard experience that unclean humidifiers can re-infect you with whatever you have! If you don't have either of those, running hot water for a few moments in the bathtub or sink and inhaling the steam may help, especially if you add a few drops of eucalyptus oil. If you are running a high fever and feel very ill you may need a throat culture to test for Strep Throat.
