Dreams occur involuntarily in the mind during sleep. Various area of the brain are active during different stages of sleep, causing the dreamer to experience sensations directly within the mind without outside stimulus. Dreams are not "seen" with the eye, but, like thoughts and imaginative ideas, they are direct functions of the mind.

One of the earliest observations of sleep researchers was that the eyes move rapidly during certain stages of sleep, appropriately called REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep. Test subjects awakened during REM sleep report dreaming just before awakening. (No one has experienced the soul leaving the body at any time during any stage of sleep in any recorded sleep study.)

Some individual has suggested that dreaming is like reincarnation (migration of the soul). After the REM your soul leaves the your body and then it strolls around.

Also in Islam religion there is something like that opinion:

-If you see bad dreams these are by Devil. And he wants to frighten you and so you scared because of this dream.
