How can you tell if transmission fluid has been mistakenly used for engine oil if after only 3 days it is black?

Smell it! Transmission Fluid has a distinct odor. If you have any doubts, then I would immediately drain the crankcase and replace the oil and filter. Otherwise you will ruin an engine.
