What were some of the feelings and attitudes towards the Vietnam War?

In Australia many of the older generation felt that we were coming to their aid in stopping the advance of communism. Many of the younger generation who were being conscripted to fight there felt they were being asked to lrisk their lives to bolster a corrupt administration in Vietnam.
