What is kyphectomy?

A kyphectomy is a surgical procedure aimed at correcting a kyphosis, which is an abnormal forward curvature of the spine that causes a hunchback or humpback appearance. During a kyphectomy, the surgeon may remove a portion of the vertebrae to help straighten the spine and improve alignment.
