How can you use the word proximity in a sentence?

Proximity means closeness, the state of being proximate. It is a redundancy to use the phrase, "close proximity." I see it all the time used by supposedly literate people, and others not so. It galls me to see the language misused that way. I'm on a campaign to see it properly used.
