What was Annapolis' original name?

Annapolis was originally named "Anne Arundel's Towne" after Lady Anne Arundel, the wife of the colonial governor, Cecil Calvert, in the 17th century. It was later renamed Annapolis in 1694, in honor of Queen Anne of Great Britain. The city served as the capital of the Maryland colony and played a significant role in early American history.
