Who wanted to promote a sense of national identity and pride among the German people?

Many German politicians have strived to do this, throughout history. Immediate examples that spring to mind are people such as Otto Von Bismarck, and Adolf Hitler; regardless of what their other sensibilities were, unifying the German people was a central tenet of their beliefs.
