Is Indonesia the US ally

Indonesia was a staunch US ally in the 1950's until the US betrayed Indonesia by labeling the country as communist. In 1965 the US supported a military coup d'etat to take over the country. In the next 33 year Indonesia was ruled by a military strongman Suharto which brought Indonesia to become a closed ally of the US again. In 1998 Suharto was toppled by 5 million students who marched into the capital Jakarta and demanded Suharto to step down. Since then the relationship between the US and Indonesia have experienced low and high points.
