Is there a mushroom or other fungus that looks like a turtle shell and opens up eventually?

I found an object in my yard that looks like a turtle but clearly was not. After a couple of weeks it opened up. I cannot find anything on the internet regarding anything like this and would also like to know the answer to this question.
