Why do coastal areas typically experience more rainfall than inland areas?

The inland areas have drier weather by nature. The coastal areas are close to water, closer to the sea. The climate will be wetter. The ocean is actually the biggest contributor to atmospheric moisture: rain, snow, sleet, hail.
