Some infants are born with fuzzy skin due to a fine, soft hair called lanugo, which develops in the womb. This hair helps to regulate body temperature and provides protection for the developing skin. Lanugo typically appears around the 5th month of pregnancy and is usually shed before birth, but some infants may still have it at birth, especially if they are born prematurely. It generally disappears within a few weeks after birth as the baby grows and develops.
