What are two reasons why Jesus was born in Bethlehem?

It was prophesied:-

1. that the Messiah would be born in Bethlehem.

Mic 5:2 But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah [ie Judah to distinguish it from another Bethlehem in Zebulun], though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.

Mat 2:1 Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,

2. that the Messiah would be one of David's descendants, and Bethlehem was David's city.

1Sa 20:6 If thy father at all miss me, then say, Davidearnestly asked leave of me that he might run to Bethlehem his city: for there is a yearly sacrifice there for all the family.

Isa 11:1 And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots:

Luk 1:31-33 KJV And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. [v. 32] He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: [v.33] And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.
