Yes, a mass air flow sensor is probably the number 1 cause of the check engine light in your car, as long as the engine is not running rough. But a couple other poss. are coil/spark plug wires (if the engine feels like it is running rough) front or rear oxygen sensors Evap leaks (gas cap not on tight) But besides that, that is about it for check engine light issues on your car, if you get me the code I can tell you exactally what to replace.
