Is a square based pyramid a prism?

No,it is not a prism because basically prism is like when you cut it in half it still has the face that it the same shape eg:cuboid and triangular prism.Thank you for your time. Prisms are shapes made of transparent material through which light can pass. As they pass into the prism the light slows and due to the fact that different colour light travels at different speeds in some material the light separates into it's component parts making a colourful spectrum. A prism can be any shape, as long as it is transparent. Therefore a square based pyramid could be a prism if made of the right stuff. It does not follow that all pyramids are prisms though.
