You have to remember that it isn't just exercising that contributes to weight loss, you have to realize that diet is a large part of losing weight. Exercising is important too, but not as much as diet.
Anyways, swimming is good for toning your muscles and making them look nice and slim. If you swim for one hour a day, that would burn around 400-600 calories (hypothetically). If you do that for seven days a week (w/out overeating or anything) that would be 500x7= 3500 calories; which is a pound a week. I know it seems like a lot of work, but it's the gradual changes that stay the longest, not those crazy diets that make you lose 20 pounds in 2 weeks (your just going to gain it all back).
