In brief - better quality of life for primary producers of resources (IE. farmers and manual workers) due to the assurance that they will receive better wages. However this may mean that companies switch to another source in order to supply these wages - doing the original workers out of the work they once had. In general it is a good thing thanks to clever marketing ensuring we think the products are a better quality due to the happier producers - but this isn't always the case as Fair Trade is a term used by many companies for a variety of practices. There are organisations who monitor some of the companies but this is legally enforceable.
