The bad news is that it isn't gold, just gold-plated. Lots of private companies plated ordinary JFK halves and sold them at exorbitant markups as "collectibles" and mementos of the late President.

The good news is that the price of silver has gone up a lot since 1964 so the underlying silver alloy in the coin is worth about $5 to $7 as of mid-2009.

The bad news is that while gold has also skyrocketed, the amount used in plating a coin is so tiny that it would cost more to strip it off than it would sell for.
About $9 for the silver in it, maybe a couple of cents extra for the gold plating on the outside.
