Do shoes shrink in the dryer?

Oh HELL YES! I was using a brand new pair of expensive tennis shoes in the dryer to keep the sheets from rolling up. I did this several times and when I finally got around to putting them on they had shrunk nearly a full size. Now I'm trying to figure out how to get them back to their original size.
