How is true communication essential in a relationship?

What is communication? On the internet we text to each other. On the phone we talk to each other. And, if we are in a relationship, we not only talk to each other, but we look at each other and watch each other's facial expression. In addition we use sensual means, perfumes, make-up and physical characteristics as means of attraction. Everything about us communicates something! Still, in the end, what is all that communication bit good for? It lets us know more about the other person. It is exactly this kind of communicating that lets us know about our partner, what he/she thinks, feels and decides. It allows us to grow together, to become more alike, for alikeness is the ultimate goal of any relationship. Don't think that you will not have your own ideas. But you will also have learned about your partner's ideas. For only as long as we can exchange ideas, as long as we communicate, can a relationship flourish.
