When and where did metal working begin?

there is always a debate between metals found and worked and metals smelted from ore. Found metals, gold nuggets, iron from meteorites, etc, came first, dates are very old, and change with the next object found or re-dated. Currently the oldest evidence is of copper smelted from ore used to make a pendant in northern Iraq roughly 8,700-10,700 years ago.
