How old is Marta in Esperanza Rising?

At the start of the book Esperanza is 13. She celebrates her birthday a few days later and turns 14. She celebrates her 15th birthday at the end of the book.

In the first chapter Esperanza is six years old. Then the story starts six years later when she is twelve, a few weeks before her thirteenth birthday. She turns fourteen at the end of the book.
