Juliette Gordon Low's maternal grandparents John H. Kinzie and Juliette Augusta Magill Kinzie lived in Chicago, Illinois. Juliette, her mother, and her sisters, Alice and Nelly, had to leave Savannah at the end of the American Civil War because Juliette's father had been a Captain in the Confederate Army.
