Why was Pochontas surprised when she met John Smith in England?

When john smith was injured from a gunpowder explosion, he had to be sent back to England. The English told the Native American people he had died. So when Pocahontas saw john smith in england, she was surprised. Also, she was already married to john rolfe, so there was nothing she could do about it.
