How do you get out knots and tangles in a pony's mane?

Investing in a metal tooth comb is a very good idea if you have a horse or pony, with a long mane and tail. Use it to pick softly at the knot or tangle, being careful not to tare the hair to much. There are also a few commercial products available to aid in the de-tangling of the mane and tail, a cheaper, but just as affective alternative is baby oil in a spray bottle.
