What is Walter dean Myers religion?

In his book 'Bad Boy' there's a part where he typed that he was wounded by hitching a cab and he had to lie to his dad that he got the wounds from his mother. He typed up that he prayed for forgiveness from god and that god would never forget that night. From the evidence in the book, I would say he's Catholic-Christian.
