A tide is the daily rise and fall of Earth's waters. Tides occur in all bodies of water (even a puddle or a cup). The tides are caused by the interaction between the Earth's, the Sun's, and the Moon's gravitational pull. There are 2 types of tides, one of which is the spring tide. The spring tide happens at the New or Full Moon, when the Sun, Earth, and Moon are lined up, causing the greatest difference between the high and low tides. Spring tides are named not because it happens in the spring, but it comes from the Word springen, meaning to jump. Another tide is the neap tide. Neap tides happen at the 1st and 3rd quarter phase of the Moon, when the Moon and Sun are at right angles to each other. The opposing gravitational pull partially cancels each other out, producing tides with the least difference in the high and low tides. Tides can be used for energy but the difference between high and low tide must be at least 4 meters. (Note: if you are talking about red tides, refer to the link at the bottom).
tide is The gravitational pull of the moon and the sun creates tides on the earth.
