How the West came to be in a position of power and growth?

Western civilisation came to the position of power and growth after the Renaissance era - after the Mediveval era, there was a sudden leap (which included the reformation of the Catholic Church) where technology advanced dramatically. Since this period of time, western society became very influential around the world. Superpowers, such as England, colonised every continent.

In theory, one might say that it came about because of the advancement of Roman and Greek civilisation which greatly influenced the Renaissance era.
