I have not finished the book yet so excuse me for assuming , Dr Jekyll seems to have a bit of a guilty conscience to say the least , this is demonstrated by his confession for his dear friend Mr Utterson , I believe he is someone who happened to discover and be affected by the evil that is too much power. Seemingly he is portrayed as a cold and evil character however he kills himself out of the guilt and the realisation of what he had done. Redemption was out of the question so his death was bound to happen. That is how I see but alas
