Poseidon is the main antagonist of The Odyssey, as he hampers Odysseus throughout his journey, as he and his descendants kill many of Odysseus men and former brothers-in-arms, (eg Ajax).

Other antagonists include:

  • the cyclops, particularly Polyphemus
  • Circe
  • Scylla and Charybdis
  • HeliOS and Zeus (after slaughter of the golden cattle of HeliOS)
  • Calypso
  • The goat herder
  • The suitors, and those who have taken their side

Things that could be considered antagonistic:

  • the Crew's greed and suspicion
  • over curiousity
  • Odysseus' pride
