No credible evidence (quotes, ex-lovers, taped sermons,etc.) exists to suggest that Walter Hawkins was gay nor has he ever made any acknowledgement of interest in other than male/female relationships. He was married to Tramaine Hawkins , his childhood sweetheart for several years. After their divorce the two remained close, ministering together in song and at worship seminars throughout the country on a frequent basis.
