A Polar terrain refers to the physical landscape of a polar region. There are two polar regions on earth, the Antarctic and the Arctic.
Antarctic Terrain: This rocky continent's terrain is 98% ice sheet and 2% barren rock. Glaciers and ice shelves make up large parts of the coastline. The ice sheet holds about 30 million cubic kilometres (7 million cubic miles) of ice.
Arctic Terrain: The centre is a floating ice pack about 3 metres thick. In summer the ice is surrounded by open seas, but in winter the ice spreads out to reach the barren and rocky land of the islands north of Canada and the northern Coastlines of Europe and Asia.
