It depends on the period of time and the location of the person who became a knight. Before King Henry VIII instituted the Anglican Church, the majority of the knights were Catholic. Afterwards, when Catholicism was banned in England, British knights were Anglican. French, Spanish, Portuguese and Italian knights remained Catholic. Today, I don't know if they require persons to be any particular religion in order to be knighted.
