A slightly altered version of the cathode ray tube was used in PCs. The electron beam would be deflected by coils of wires instead of plates. Then, TVs also made use of it till the LCD and LED technology came about.

One less known yet obvious use is in heart rate monitors. The mechanical signals are converted into electric signals. This is then emitted through the CRO and the beat is shown as a digital image.
