What does chinese writing look like?

Chinese is a character language. There are traditional and simplified versions of the characters. The origins of these characters can be traced back thousands of years. More recently, phonetic systems have been developed to allow people to pronounce unfamiliar characters. One such system is called pinyin. Another is called Wade-Giles. Traditionally, Chinese is written in columns from top to bottom, right to left.
