What happens if you write a bad check to someone you know?

One or more of the things below can happen:

1. The person to whom you gave the check will not get money
2. The bank will charge you a penalty for issuing a bad check
3. The person to whom you gave the check may initiate legal proceedings against you and you can be jailed
