The nationality of the name Cansiani is difficult to define in terms of the modern world. On one ancestral line, it goes back to Giorgio Quinciay Cansiani, which today is translated into English as George Quincey/Quincy Cancienne or George Quincey/Quincy Concienne.
George was born in Venetia when it was an independent nation. Napoleon Bonaparte acquired Venetia and put it under the French rule. It wasn't until 1866 that Napoleon Bonaparte transferred Venetia to the jurisdiction of Italy where it became known as Venice, Italy. George's son, Pierre was born in 1752 in Venetia. So, in terms of today's nationalities, I believe Canciani is considered to be Italian.
