When was Roanoke established?

The original attempt was in 1585 and a second time in 1587. The colonists were left on their own for three years and when the English returned they found no trace of the colonists. It is unknown what happened to them. Either they moved islands or their relationship with the local Indians went sour. The Island of Roanoke has a play to day that is called the "Lost Colony". It is a wonderful play that gives an idea of what may have happened.
