Why did China's rulers put an end to voyages of exploration after Zheng He died?

The rulers of China at the time shifted their priorities towards land-based defense and the consolidation of power within the country. The costly expeditions led by Zheng He were seen as diverting resources that could be better used elsewhere. Additionally, the Confucian bureaucracy favored a focus on domestic affairs over foreign exploration.
