What is a furniture piece called a doughboy?

My parents (WWII generation) had a piece of furniture they called a doughboy. It was essentially a box with 4 legs that had a hinge midway on the top so that you could put a lamp on the back half yet open it by lifting the lid on the front section and store books, magazines or cards. They had 2 of them which served as end tables by our living room couch.
