the sun affects the ocean cause the water gets hotter...
when the water becomes warmer it rises and stays on currents that are shallower in the ocean while the cold currents run deeper. The sun heats up the water which in turn rises to the surface of the ocean. Many of the current in the oceans are predetermined and run constantly with little change. The warm water flows along this natural pathway and when it reaches colder temperatures and climates such as the north or south pole the water loses its heat and drops to the bottom of the ocean very very rapidly causing dramatic changes in current direction and speed. This effect also controls and regulates our seasons and some weather formations, especially in Western Europe.
