The white city was the World's Columbian Expositionworld's fair in Chicago in 1893. It was a city of about 200 building set on 630 acres on the edge of Lake Michigan. It was known as the white city because all of the buildings were deliberately painted white for an effect to evoke the grandeur of the buildings ancient Rome or Greece.
