Why would someone take the time and energy to use another person for money or sex?

For some people, it's more satisfying to get benefits (sex, attention, money, etc.) from someone who willingly provides them with little to no reciprocation or commitment, rather than to actually invest in the time and energy of being honest about what they want and treating someone they way they would like to be treated.
