Xiphactinus, a large predatory fish from the Late Cretaceous period, primarily fed on smaller fish and marine animals, including ammonites and other cephalopods. Its powerful jaws and sharp teeth allowed it to capture and consume a variety of prey efficiently. Fossil evidence suggests it may have also scavenged on carcasses. Overall, Xiphactinus was an apex predator in its marine ecosystem.
