All gasoline comes from the same terminal(s) that are closest to your area. Marathon, Exxon, BP, Motiva, etc. Whichever has the best price on that day. The quality is all the same depending on a few variables. The tanker driver plays a role in this. If they take pride and are properly trained, the gas or diesel that they put in the ground is exactly the same as it would be if you was allowed to get it directly from the source. If the driver does not drain the compartments as much as possible, condensation and dirt builds up. That is not a big deal since most underground tanks are 10 to 20 thousand gallons. Its like spitting in a pond. Most gasoline quality issues arise from stores not maintaining the filters, pumps, or letting the tanks go bone dry. Gasoline is a very light liquid. Water, dirt, and other impurities settle at the very bottom since they are heavier.

Back to the question of supply. Oil prices vary from terminal to terminal on a daily basis. Any station tries to get the best price possible in order to boast lower prices at the pump. Most are going to make "x" amount no matter what. If I could compare it to anything, I would say it is like bottled water. If you want Evian, it will cost more than Aquafina, but they both do the exact same thing. It is a crazy industry. All things considered, all of the different terminals and tanker drivers across the U.S do an amazing job in making sure that your local gas hole does not go dry. If you run into a problem with the performance of your fuel, 99% of that can be attributed to bad filters at the pump.
