Where did the lost colony of Roanoke?

The lost colony of Roanoke was located in present-day North Carolina, United States. It was established in 1587 by English settlers, but by the time a resupply mission arrived in 1590, the colony had disappeared, leaving behind only the Word "CROATOAN" carved on a post. The fate of the colonists remains a mystery.
