ISO tank containers are stainless steel (sometimes carbon steel) pressure vessels supported by and protected within a steel frame. They can be used to transport or store both hazardous materials and non-hazardous cargo. The beauty of the ISO tank is that it complies with the ISO (International Standards Organization) guidelines and has the same shipping dimensions as a standard 20 ft. box container. As it has corner castings it can be transported on a container chassis that has twist locks that will lock into the tank frame without needing to use chains or binders to secure it for over the road transport. In addition to transporting a tank on the highways via a chassis or trailer, you can also stack these containers on rail cars for transport on US and international railways. Perhaps one of the biggest advantages for the ISO tank is that it can be easily an economically shipped on ocean carriers for international freight. It is counted as a 20' box and does not require any special ro-ro (roll on, roll off) or break bulk services as a tank trailer with wheels would need. There is an entire industry dedicated to moving chemicals, pharmaceuticals, wines & spirits, and other products via the versatile tank container.
