King James I of England (also King James VI of Scotland and King James I of Ireland) was succeeded by his son, King Charles I.
James VI (Stewart) of Scotland became James I, the ruler of both Scotland and England when Elizabeth I, the last ruler of the house of Tudor, died in 1603.

James I died on 27 March 1625, and because his eldest son Henry had died in 1612, he was succeeded by his second son, Charles, who became Charles I. This monarch who would go on to be executed for treason in 1649.
