Transylvania, situated in Central Romania, is
surrounded by Carpathian Mountain Ranges which is noted for the
scenic beauty of its landscapes. This region also has a history of
dukes, fiefdoms and castles. But, Bram Stoker, the nineteenth
century Irish author, selected this Carpathian Mountain Ranges in
Transylvania as the background for his famous novel Dracula for
another reason. The fifteenth century noble lord Dracul who was a
member of the Order of Dragons who fought against Ottoman Turks
lived in a castle in Transylvania. In 1431, his son, Count Vlad,
the central character in Bram Stoker's novel, was born there as the
son of Dracul. Dracula in Romanian means, the son of Dracul. Of
course, a noble lord named Dracul and his son named Vlad having
ever lived in Transylvania has been questioned later.
