Where was gold found in nature?

Since gold is an element - all of it comes originally from nature (with the exception of a few atoms here and there produced in atomic physics experiments). Gold has been found all over the earth in subterranean mines, in riverbeds, in canyon walls, etc. People have been mining and refining gold ore since prehistoric times so it would be tough to say where it was FIRST found.
